On May 13th, Stanford students in Wallenberg Theater watched in awe as a team of American students discussed the Iraq war with a team students in Baghdad. Bridge to Baghdad, a two-part documentary depicted videoconferences between students in New York and students in Baghdad a few months before, and three years into, the Iraq war.

Olympics to Showcase a Changing China

Flashing lights, giant signs, and elaborate displays now adorn the once-drab streets of China’s capital city. Digitized concrete billboards stand nearly fifteen feet tall at major intersections, screaming in bright lights the number of days, hours and minutes until the event that will place China at the center of global media attention.

Final Agreement Reached in Khmer Rouge Trial Negotiations

Although it has been nearly thirty years since the Cambodian Khmer Rouge was ousted from power, its leaders have yet to be tried for the human rights atrocities of their Communist regime. One of the most lethal regimes of the 20th century, the Khmer Rouge was responsible for the deaths of about twenty percent of its population.

With the first round approaching in a few short weeks, tensions over the outcome of the French presidential election are rapidly mounting. According to last week’s Le Parisien, Nicolas Sarkozy, who is the subject of great media controversy for his very conservative political views, is leading the way with a forecasted thirty-six percent of the vote.
