Bed RockI don’t know how the rest of you have been spending your breaks, but I’ve been a tad bored. I’ve had a lot of time to listen to music this break, and as such, I’ve discovered some winners. Unfortunately, I’m sure to the chagrin of my former roommates, none of these discoveries were British Indie bands.
First and foremost is Copy Cats, a blog that posts mostly covers, but also some remixes and mashups that cover pretty much the entire musical spectrum; from Daft Punk to string quartets. Not all the songs posted on this blog are excellent (or palatable); however, that is by design, as the blog intends to point out interesting tracks, good or not.
Copy Cats led me to my next discovery, Can You See the Sunset? This blog trends much more towards the indie side of things and generally discussed bands I’ve never heard of. But one redeeming factor that I loved of this blog is the Christmas cover compilations. This is my favorite post, especially the Coldplay cover, it just seems to fit their style as a band perfectly. I think I prefer Christmas cover to the originals because it shows a different side of current artists.
Last, and not least, is the Versus mixtape from The White Panda. This is a very good mixtape, it blends current popular songs, excellent indie tracks and some favorite oldies into one excellent combination that will be on heavy rotation on my p-set and workout playlists.
And I can’t mention mashup mixtapes without mentioning the grandaddy of them all (at least to me), The Hood Internet. The Hood Internet played a show at Stanford 2 years ago and 3 years ago were my first introduction to mashups. They’ve released the fourth edition of The Mixtape; however I haven’t listened to it yet and decided to write this post before listening to it.

Reading books is good too.
