A Biggie to the Cardinal Crowd
In the most recent issue of The Stanford Review, the paper’s editorial board (which, as it disclaims, “represent the views of The Stanford Review‘s Editorial Board and do not necessarily reflect opinions of The Stanford Review or its staff”) announced endorsements in three contested statewide elections in next week’s primary: Meg Whitman for Governor, Tom Campbell for the Republican nomination for Senate, and Mickey Kaus for the Democratic nomination for Senate.
As the board’s endorsement for Meg Whitman reads,
This year’s election is especially important for students. Without more jobs and less government spending, students will face unemployment now and higher taxes in the future to pay for today’s excesses.
The Review‘s editorial board endorsements have been taken seriously and gained publicity in a number of places.
First, Meg Whitman‘s campaign tweeted about the endorsement on Twitter yesterday to her (as of this writing) 232,981 followers:
Excited about the Stanford Review endorsement http://bit.ly/bLdNqR #GOMEG #CAGOV
Then, the San Francisco Chronicle‘s lead political reporter, Carla Marinucci, wrote about the board’s endorsement of Tom Campbell in a post about last-minute endorsements on the Chron’s Politics blog. Noting the endorsement of Campbell over Carly Fiorina ’76, Marinucci wrote of the endorsement,
Ouch, that’s a biggie to the Cardinal crowd: Campbell was a Stanford University law prof, while Fiorina graduated from Stanford with a medieval history degree.

Finally, Tom Campbell sent out word of the Review‘s endorsement on his interactive website, Campbell Connect, in “A message to all members of Campbell Connect” titled “Stanford Review backs Campbell.” The message groups the *Review *with a number of other California newspapers:
Other papers endorsing Tom are the LA Daily News, Riverside Press Enterprise, Bakersfield Californian, Santa Rosa Press Democrat, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Sacramento Bee, Santa Cruz Sentinel, Fresno Bee, Oakland Tribune and Contra Costa Times — all of whom agree he’s the strongest candidate against Boxer and the best equipped to help right America’s economy.
Don’t forget to vote in Tuesday’s primary elections!
