The Stanford Daily yesterday ran a good piece about President Hennessy’s ties to The National Research Council’s Committee on Science, Security and Prosperity. Apparently President Hennessy co-chairs a national committee with Brent Scowcroft, former National Security Advisor to Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush, that looks at with the intersection of American research universities, national security, and law.

The Committee recently issued a 100-page report aimed at persuading the Obama Adminstration to make some changes in the way that American security research deals with the global market. Main point:

The national security controls that regulate access to and export of science and technology are broken.  As currently structured, many of these controls undermine our national and homeland security and stifle American engagement in the global economy and science and technology.
