Along with all of the other Admit Weekend programming on Saturday, April 25th, which is always top-notch, there  is also the Continuing Studies Program’s annual “Company of Authors” book salon, which will run from 1pm to 5pm at the Stanford Humanities Center.  Peter Stansky, a Stanford historian who has written on Orwell, will be hosting the event.  Of particular interest is the panel from 2:30pm – 3:15pm, which includes former Stanford president Richard Lyman, who will be discussing his book on student radicalism on campusfrom 1966-1972, and the final panel conversation between Prof. Stansky and the novelist Tobias Wolff, from 4:45pm – 5:10pm.  Details of the event can be found here.

Events such as these happen frequently on campus, with world leaders and noted scholars speaking and taking questions in an open forum, but, in the view of the Fiat Lux staff, the opportunity these events present is not fully taken advantage of by many students.  Prospective students interested in seeing what campus intellectual life is like beyond the parallel excellent programming of Admit Weekend might find the Company of Authors symposium of interest.
