Footballers to become Fratstars?

Stanford Football Players – coming to a fraternity near you.

After practice on Monday, new Head Coach David Shaw announced that upperclassman will be allowed to rush fraternities this year.

The decision is a departure from Coach Harbaugh’s ban on players joining Greek organizations. Freshman won’t be allowed to rush, but the option to pledge a fraternity will certainly appeal to Sophomores and Juniors who plan on spending five years on campus.

Shaw has been hailed as a “player’s coach” and this move seems to be in accord with that image.

I’m all for letting footballers rush.

At times it has seemed like there has been a divide between the football players and the rest of campus. Many upperclassmen live off campus. This gives members of the team a chance to fully participate in campus life.

Let the rushing begin.
